My work is abstract because it’s universal, yet not self-contained or self-referential. Rather occupying the space between poetry and painting. Through visual and poetic metaphor
I consider each element in the painter’s toolbox in isolation to achieve a form of compounding of painterly expression.
I make a conscious choice to emphasize the expressive power of shape and often repeat the form in a given work.
I find that repeating the same form creates a visual rhythm similar to music. It creates a harmony of elements within the work where one part is echoed in another.
