Biography
Jeminah Ateb (b. 1998, Switzerland, Geneva) creates conceptual art with a visual language that depicts her past and shared experiences, as well as recent happenings in Nigeria, where she lives. Her work combines tactics like wit and direct commentary, in order to communicate with the viewer and encourage the interrogation of issues pertaining to women, especially, as it relates to her.
Currently working with digital and paper with mediums such as pen, acrylic and marker. Ateb’s pieces ask her audience to confront truths about themselves and the society they live in, all the while maintaining a firm basis in social, cultural, and political critique.
Jeminah Ateb studied Agricultural Science at University of Abuja, Nigeria. Her hobbies are drawing, dancing, acting, listening to music, traveling etc. Her interest in art began as far back as when she was a little girl, despite no formal training. Inspired at the time by issues relating to her peers and those around her, she has continued to create pieces and her work has since evolved, as she hopes her art impacts her audience in a positive way. For her, art is not just a form of expression but a safe haven, devoid of restrictions, boxes or boundaries.
