Luo Jian is a Chinese documentary photographer based in Paris and Beijing. After working years as a photojournalist in the Chinese press industry, he moved to France where he began a new photography journey. His work focuses on the life of the people with a geopolitical background. He tries to find the fundamental relations between Man and the modern society and presents them through his lenses.

A maiden nun turns her head towards the camera in a pious group of prayers at Yarchen Gar, the largest residential and scholastic area of Buddhist nuns in the world. Some children are sent here at an early age to practice asceticism; they often face the conflict between the constraint of religion and the temptation of the modern society.
