     Diane Marie Velasco is a mixed media artist whose works focus on the adventures of her video game avatar and Wilfred, her mascot. In many of these scenarios, the duo tackle the expression of personal anxieties through video game mechanics.

     Velasco portrays these situations using a wide range of mediums including digital media, painting, collage, and more. Recently, she has been working with cellophane, focusing on the translucency of the material and its interaction with light.

     She is currently a student and will be graduating in the spring of 2023.

Biography

     Diane Marie Velasco was born in 2001 in Hamilton, New Jersey. In 2023, she will receive her B.A. in Spanish and Studio Art at Drew University. Velasco’s work has been exhibited in Student Show 2021 at Drew’s Korn Gallery as well as Unrestrained: China-U.S. Culture Exchange – Young Artists Exhibition at the Lotus Art Museum in Beijing, China. Her work has been featured in the 2019–2020 and 2021–2022 editions of Drew University’s art and literary magazine, Insanity’s Horse. From July 6th to July 19th of this year, she attended the In-Person Painting Marathon: The Figure in the Landscape at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture. Velasco’s works will be featured in Senior Thesis Exhibition 2023. She currently lives and works in Trenton, New Jersey.
