I grew up in Quebec, Canada and am of Polish origin. My grandmother first introduced me to thin, coloured papers and the art of cutting symmetrical shapes known as "wyczinanki". The folk craft influences me today. Although the perfect symmetry generally escapes me, it is present in most of my art. My mother is an artist and has forever exposed me to her passion of colour. She continues to be my most enthusiastic supporter of my own desire and need to be creative. I feel a particular kindred spirit in Henri Matisse.
I was a secondary school teacher in several countries around the world. While in Thailand, I discovered my profound love and appreciation of hand-made paper. Since the fall of 2018, I have retired from teaching and then the pandemic began shortly afterwards.
During the period of confinement, I cut and glued paper on card or wood and also began to decorate furniture. This too is a craft connected to my Polish heritage. My art often includes repetitive shapes and mirrored designs. At the time, I lived in the Basque country where I was inspired by the flowers and animals.
I aspire to create 3D paper sculptures when I have a studio with water.
