As an artist, I believe that development lies in constantly pushing the boundaries that I have previously set for myself. This process is never-ending. In the early stages of my creative journey, I gravitated towards more traditional materials and techniques, thinking that this would appeal to a wider audience. However, over the course of 10 years, I have transformed both as an artist and as a person. Now, the materials I work with hold less significance to me. I believe that artistic expression should not be confined by the limitations of a particular medium. I utilize various materials such as cardboard, canvas, paper, walls, and even bird feathers collected from a nearby park to achieve the desired form. Additionally, I incorporate found objects like old photographs, records, postcards, and my own personal writings to add depth to my paintings. The impressions and images gathered from my ethnographic expeditions also play a crucial role in my work.

My current focus is breaking away from the stereotypical mindset of consuming art like fast food, where viewers simply swallow without truly digesting its meaning. I see myself as a psychologist of sorts, helping individuals delve into the depths of their own emotions and experiences. Mythological and biblical narratives serve as rich sources for exploring the complexities of human nature - love, death, good, evil, betrayal, and self-sacrifice.

In my artistic practice, I choose to address important social and philosophical concepts such as war, emigration, the role of volunteers, refugee issues, environmental concerns, and the challenges faced by women in patriarchal societies. My ultimate goal is to continue capturing people's attention and provoking thought on these critical subjects. I aim to shake society out of its complacency, to open eyes that may have been closed for too long. To achieve this, I plan to increase my productivity and create more artworks. By organizing solo exhibitions, I hope to share my perspective and worldview with a wider audience, creating a platform for dialogue and understanding.

Unity, embracing, and respecting all forms of life are the key elements for a peaceful future. However, our world is currently divided by conflicts and the desire to impose beliefs. To imagine a future without divisions, we must recognize the interconnectedness of all life and embrace it without narrow-minded ideologies. My artwork embodies the ideals of freedom and unity. In this artwork, three figures of different races gracefully merge into a harmonious unity.

Biography

Kateryna Goncharova is a Ukrainian artist currently living in Armenia. Her works revolve around such important social and philosophical concepts as war, emigration, the role of volunteers, refugee problems, environmental issues, and the challenges faced by women in a patriarchal society. She also loves creating figurative artworks dedicated to human diversity, inclusivity, and inner strength. Her pieces depict people of all genders, ages, races, and social statuses.

“I find it inspiring when an artist creates a platform for communication, even if the viewer engages in self-reflection by simply observing and reacting to what they see. It fascinates me how artists can act as psychologists, bringing to light what has long been buried in a person's psyche or introducing a problem that forces them to think critically - perhaps for the first time in their lives. This is why I enjoy exploring mythological and biblical themes; they contain a myriad of complex human emotions and experiences. By delving into these themes and uncovering their deep meanings, fears, goals, pains, and unfulfilled desires, we can become more whole as individuals.

I consider my work to be successful when it affects a person from the inside, helps him understand something in himself, and brings to light thoughts and feelings that they may not have been able to express before. In my opinion, the most talented artists create works that resonate with the viewer, exposing their innermost thoughts and feelings, allowing them to release pent-up emotions and find hope in the possibility of returning to a place of happiness. Even if only a small part of the viewer's soul is stirred by the work, or if the message reaches the farthest corners of their being, it can still be considered a meaningful and successful creation."
