Axel van Zyl has been passionate about painting since his adolescence. He quickly exhibited his work in the south of France where his acrylics of bodies in motion met with great success. He then turned to studies in visual communication in Paris before leaving for London. He currently lives and paints in Rouen.
His work is part of an aesthetic approach that is certainly pleasing to the eye, but above all it is marked by a desire to express a message, an emotion. Through his paintings he tries to express his personal view of otherness and to let the emotions that inspire him about the place of the human being in modern society vibrate.
In his works, his refined aesthetics are used to express states of mind often marked by melancholy.
He does not wish to impose any fixed interpretation of his paintings and prefers on the contrary that each one allows himself to discover himself in their contemplation.
