Between 2015-2017, he worked as an assistant to Sculptor H. Ertuğ ATLI. He graduated from Anadolu University Fine Arts Institute in 2021, completing his thesis on "Symbolic Expression in Ancient Egyptian Sculpture Art". Continuing his sculpture works actively during this period, the artist also took part in the organizations of short film shows and cinema workshops within the ArtColony artist residence, which operates in the fields of cinema and culture, as a team worker of the Katadrom association.

With his figurative works, he tries to reflect the emotional changes that people experience in their inner world, to the human body, by determining a transcendent moment to describe these emotions in their figures, and concentrates on conveying them to the audience with a symbolic narrative.

The artist continues to produce mainly metal sculptures in his workshop in Eskişehir.

“She watched to regenerate, priest snakes. Weren't they the ones who were adept at throwing away the past. She wanted to learn this magic. The answer was Domination. She did not hesitate to touch it, the priest seized the snakes. The priest spoke one of the snakes, one fell silent, and then rewarded this courage with his teeth. Now, the protector of Crete; Queen of snakes.”

Biography

Aslan Selçuk Ark is my name. I graduated with honors from the Anadolu University Fine Arts Department. In 2015, I worked as the application manager for the Bursa Nilüfer Municipality Atatürk memorial sculpture project and the poetry clock tower projects as an assistant to artist H. Ertuğ Atlı. I began my master’s degree with thesis at Anadolu University Fine Arts Institute in 2017. I was drawn to the meaning in ancient Egypt’s interpretation of art. I may say that my readings of ancient Egypt influenced my desire to create a symbolic narrative language with mythological characters in my works. I was a member of the technical team for the Katadrom association’s Art Residency program for movie disciplines. For the past two years, I have been working as a professional independent artist in Eskişehir, creating metal sculptures. Since 2022, I’ve taken part in sculpture competitions, fairs, and exhibitions.

Quote
I see the figure as an element with strong narrative power in sculpture practice. A content element suitable for explaining complex or simple concepts in an impressive way. The presence of the human figure in art since ancient times is based on the human being’s attempt to establish a bond between concepts and the body. My figures today; It establishes a bond with me and the audience by addressing the emotional states experienced by people with their movements, vague genders, proportions, sometimes abstractions and symbols. I create my contexts by drawing strength from the old ways established with humans through myths, stories, and historical events. When I want to say something new, I create my own stories and present them in a narrative way. I use metal as the primary media in my sculptures because it allows me to create free space in the transitions between open and closed forms and because it is a material that allows me to use spontaneous ideas fast and efficiently. Also, the reason I melt the metal to make the form is that it has a similar biological structure to my method of creating a thinking
