I come from the shores of Ghana and grew up selling items on the streets. As an artist, I turn back to the streets and find a source of inspiration to paint and draw. In my work, I celebrate the plight, honesty, and adversities of street people from my native country by depicting and sharing their stories with dignity and honesty. I mainly use mixed media to create my works and collage elements such as Ankara fabric onto my surfaces.

Girl in white headdress

In this work, I have depicted a young girl who is hustling on the streets of Ghana. I have portrayed her with beauty, honor, and dignity to contextualize the perception people have of street people. Usually, people don't respect the marginalized and here, the young girl has been portrayed with joy and looks to mark her place in society with confidence.
