I am a multi-disciplined artist working primarily as a figurative painter, in oil, watercolour and a quilt maker. Quilts add a second dimension to my practice. Associated with home and comfort they suggest a strong link to the past.
I explore intention, heredity and chance. The many layers that give someone their unique identity. Our journey through life; our family, friends, where we travel to and come from. I scrutinise our humanity and the stratum of conscious and subconscious memory. I investigate the elements of the life we expect to live and those experiences that happen to us by chance. In my work I am conscious of liminal space, when we find ourselves between what was and what is to come, of transition and the unknown.
As we grow our family's myriad influences make way for our own choices and we begin to select our own path. Considering these layers of life's adventures, we are a combination of many narratives. Our story through our race, gender, and experiences driven by the unique circumstances in which we find ourselves.
