Tara Hughes

Tara Hughes is a self-taught portrait artist with a Mongolian mother and English father but born and raised in Portugal. She is currently based in Maastricht, where she pursues an L.L.B in European Law at Maastricht University and specialises art law and cultural heritage. Tara focuses on small and large-scale portraits through pencil drawings, paintings, and charcoal. Through these, she explores themes like cultural disconnect, ordinary tenderness, and the female experience. Tara has published her work in Mosaiek Magazine, an art magazine in Maastricht and is currently working on her application to the RCA. Her inspiration lies within the loss of her maternal grandmother, becoming a woman, and small snapshots of love across everyday life.
