Pepe Hidalgo is a contemporary painter whose work blends figurative and abstract elements into a poetic visual language guided by intuition. Working mainly in acrylic with translucent glazes, he creates depth, atmosphere, and subtle emotion in his scenes.

Inspired by childhood visits to Madrid’s Prado Museum and masters such as Velázquez, Zurbarán, El Bosco, and the Impressionists, his paintings draw on mythology, astrology, history, and personal experience. Hidalgo’s work is held in private and public collections across Europe, the Americas, Cuba, China, and Australia, offering collectors and designers art rich in narrative, texture, and symbolic depth.

See the Unseen, Hear the Unspoken I reflects the layered journeys of people navigating life’s complexities. The painting invites viewers to look beyond the surface toward the stories, experiences, and truths that are often hidden, silenced, or forgotten.

Biography

Pepe Hidalgo is a contemporary painter whose work blends figurative and abstract narrative styles, offering a poetic and imaginative visual language. Rather than drawing from realism, his figures and forms emerge from intuition and inner vision. Layers of translucent glazes give his acrylic paintings a unique spatial depth and atmospheric quality, techniques that subtly animate interiors with emotion and mystery.

A distinctive element in his work is the recurring image of a string or cord, symbolizing an umbilical connection to the universe. It serves as both anchor and lifeline, supporting the artist as he navigates between memory, myth, and modernity.

Hidalgo’s artistic journey began in childhood, shaped by visits to the Museo del Prado in Madrid. Influences such as Velázquez, Zurbarán, El Bosco, and the Impressionists continue to echo through his work in both palette and composition. His paintings often incorporate layers of meaning, drawing from astrology, mythology, history, and personal experience, making each piece not just decorative, but deeply narrative.
